I was advised by one of my doctors to take this supplement after I had a bad reaction to topiramate (however, I was NOT taking topiramate for seizures, so don't go thinking that berberine is a seizure medication, because it is not!!). I didn't really notice anything for awhile. I am clinically obese but otherwise in good health, and hadn't dieted or even weighed myself in probably a few months . I can usually tell even slight weight loss or gain by the fit of my clothes. After maybe a few weeks, I noticed that my jeans were looser than normal, so I weighed myself. I was surprised to see that I was down 5-10 pounds from the last time I weighed. I'm now down over 15 lbs. And I am not dieting, nor have I really changed my eating habits. I was actually worried at first, because unexplained weight loss (no matter what you weigh) is not necessarily a good thing. However, it has been slow, but steady, and I'm still in good health, and I have a long way to go. I do think now that I can attribute it to the berberine. My sense is that I sort of automatically take smaller portions, and am less inclined to eat from stress or boredom.
